Home How you can help Make your property wildlife friendly
Making your property wildlife friendly

There are lots of ways you can help our wildlife on your own property. Here are just a few ideas.......

  • Make water available for wildlife during the hot summer days. Ensure that you place a stick against the inside edge of the bowl or bucket of water that you leave out, as often small animals will fall into the water while having a drink and drown because they can't get out
  • Plant wildlife friendly plants. Your local nursery will be able to give you information on what types of plants would be suitable to attract wildlife
  • Make fences wildlife friendly. Fencing commonly causes serious injury to kangaroos in particular. Click here for more information about wildlife friendly fencing for the Macedon Ranges
  • Build and erect possum boxes
  • Create safe wildlife corridors on your property
  • Keep dogs under control and NEVER allow them to chase wildlife or roam in wildlife areas unsupervised

Get rid of barbed wire

Barbed wire left lying around causes many injuries to wildlife - even if its neatly coiled up.
